BLESSINGS IN QUILLECO AND LONGAVI — December 5, 2008

Hello Supporters, Family, and Friends:

Just got back last night from another 4 days on the road in the area of Concepcion and Los Angeles. I made stops at about a dozen towns in delivering our DVDs. It was quite hot. And it was very dusty whenever I got off the pavement. I took a "short cut" across the back country and found myself on a one vehicle river ferry being pulled across by two strong arms. Not only was this a pleasant and refreshing surprise, but also because of the heat wave every river I passed had kids swimming and diving. The schools just let out last week for summer vacation.

But the farmers have to keep on working in the heat to feed the kids. Horse power is still very apparent in the countryside even though Chile also has state of the art equipment for farming, as you find on big farms in the States. I am sure that you would rather see photos of the rustic side of farming by the Huaso farmers.

I HAD A BLESSING IN QUILLECO. Pastor Rosendo and his wife, Maritza (Baptists) talked non stop for an hour about how he persuaded the seven evangelical pastors (Baptists and Pentecostals) in the area to come together in unity over the last four years. They said that they "all now rotate preaching in each other's churches on Friday evenings." "All the young people of all seven churches now have activities together." And during the last elections, "All the churches met in the central plaza to prayed in the Christian candidate for Mayor of Quilleco." Before this took place the churches had a reputation in the community of rejecting one another. Rosendo said that "four years ago when our ministry came to his town, he started sharing the videos with the other pastors." VIM became one of the factors that brought about unity to the whole Christian community. GLORY TO GOD!

I HAD A BLESSING IN LONGAVI. The last night out, I had to abandon sleeping in the van and rent a room so I could shower. The next morning I went downstairs and was fed breakfast by the owner of the Hostel. Just as I finished, she came over to find out what this Gringo was doing in her remote town. After she found out about my ministry, she told me that her waitress, Maria was a Christian.

When Maria showed up for work a few minutes later, I called her over to see if she could recommend a church for our ministry. The pastor who was working with our videos in Longavi had moved out of town. She right away wanted me to call her pastor who had a small church some 7 kilometers out of town. I phoned the pastor and he spoke with a lot of gratitude after hearing what we were willing to do for the church. Then I went through our list of titles with Maria, and she chose mostly subjects that applied to teenagers and young adults. I allowed her to select a few more than I usually hand out (28 DVDs in her case) because of the energy in her that kept building as I was noting the discs she had selected.

She became so excited about the reality of having quality teaching and counseling for the young people in the church that she started squealing in delight and wouldn't stop. She said, "Our church of 50 people is almost all young and this is going to be the first time that my pastor will have materials for us." We went out to the van to pull the discs and when we finished, Maria pressed the DVDS to her chest and ran across the street like an excited rabbit through the traffic back to the Hostel. My heart leaped as it looked like she was in danger of getting hit. I guess the drivers in this town are used to pedestrians running through traffic. GLORY TO GOD!

Supporters, we know that it is tough for you to continue to meet our needs in this ministry because the economy is going through convulsions; as it is here in Chile, too. Thank you for your faithfulness, Larry and Nikki
