2009 PATAGONIA MINISTRY TRIP : JOINING LARRY VIA PHOTOS — March 19, 2009

Dear Support Team:

Last weekend I returned from a 5,000 kilometer and very successful half month of ministry in the southern Patagonia area of Chile. It was a hard travel over a lot of gravel roads. This time, instead of using the two night car ferry in Chile, I crossed into Argentina at Bariloche and reentered Chile further south at Futeleufú. When I returned home, I crossed over the frontier at Chile Chico.

It was nerve wracking driving in Argentina, as I was stopped at about 12 police roadside checks, where I was asked for my documents. This is not counting the times passing through Customs. I was happy to get back to Chile as it felt like home and comparable to the feeling I have in returning to the States.

I was not always alone on the road. Twice I had the company of young backpacking Jewish hitchhikers - my captive audiences! They listened attentively to my explanation of who Immanuel is in Isaiah 7 and 53. Actually they expressed shock to see in their own Old Testament that Immanuel had to come through a Virgin birth and had to receive punishment for our transgressions. As usual the Jewish people I talk to are very ignorant of scripture and very focused on traditions. Lots of seeds were sown on this trip. During the trip a couple years ago I had the opportunity to explain the message of salvation in the Old Testament to 16 Jewish hitchhikers.

I can say that all the pastors I met with were very excited to see me - lots of interesting encounters and stories. Many expressed relief from fear that I was not returning, as I had missed two consecutive years. I lost time because of my ordeal with the stomach cancer operation and time needed to do the technical work of transferring our cassette video library over to DVDs. The enthusiasm of the pastors and lay people in charge of churches really confirmed the value of our ministry and compensated for the stress and expense I encountered in traveling out so far.

In Cohiaque, I was stranded for 3 days as there was no fuel to be purchased anywhere. The roads were blocked at Port of Aisen by tire burning, rock throwing fishermen which prevented any fuel tanker trucks from leaving the Port. I was able to sneak around the back streets to meet up with our Rep. located there.

Even though I got stuck for three days, the time was well spent as I was able to add two more Pastors to our ministry in Cohiaque (photo above). One of the new Reps. is the President of the Council of Pastors there, and we selected DVD bible classes that will complement him helping and teaching the other Pastors. He was very appreciative. Overall, I added and equipped about 8 new people to our list of Representatives on this trip.

Once again, Nikki and I thank those of you who have been helping us with the necessary finances to reach those who no one else reaches. All the Glory goes to Immanuel!

The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14
